I've got a Smart meter, can I still switch?

We don't currently support smart meter functionality, although this doesn't stop you joining us. If you switch your Smart meter to So Energy, it will behave like a 'normal' meter instead.

What does that mean in practice?

  • You will need to provide us with meter reading via your online account to ensure accurate energy statements.
  • If you use an IHD (in-home display) or another Smart device that relies on knowing your meter readings, these will not provide accurate information anymore. We would advise you switch these off and pop them in a cupboard - they might be useful again in the future...
  • The energy industry is hoping to make upgrades allowing all supplier to read all smart meters, which will mean we can read your smart meter! Unfortunately, we have little control over this and it may be some time, but fingers crossed and we'll let you know as soon as this happens!
