Most of your bills with So Energy will be made up of two elements: unit rates (the cost of the energy you're using) and standing charges (a daily cost for the upkeep of the supply). You can find out more about bills and account balances.

Rarely, you may see additional charges on your bill. We'll explain how this works here.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Why Are Additional Charges Added?

Additional charges should never come as a surprise. They can be the result of requested and agreed work for things like upgrading your meter equipment (not smart meter upgrades which are usually free) or for changes to your contract.

You will find any additional charges from the 1st page of the bill (with the exception of exit fees which are displayed from the 2nd page of the bill onwards).

Metering Work Charges

When you ask us to do specific work on your meter, we may have to charge for it depending on the request. You can find a list of all of our metering charges here, and we will confirm these with you in advance of the appointment.

After the work is carried out, we will add those charges to your next bill.

Exit Fees

Exit fees are charged for changes to your contract, such as when you leave for another supplier mid-contract. You can read more about exit fees here.

Exit fees will be added to your final bill after you have switched away or to your next bill for other contract changes.

Other Charges

If you're on a fixed rate contract and miss an agreed Direct Debit payment, we reserve the right to add a missed payment charge to your next bill (usually worth £30).

If we agree a date for a meter work appointment and you cancel with less than 24 hour notice or aren't present at the agreed time, we reserve the right to add a missed appointment charge to your next bill (usually worth £30).

Do Additional Charges Have to be Paid Immediately?

Additional charges are added to your bill, meaning they will lead to decreasing your account balance. This means they don't have to be paid immediately.

We review accounts throughout the year to make sure you're paying the right amount for your usage and any charges, and we take your overall balance into account.

If charges are added to your final bill, this will have to be paid at the same time as the final bill itself (provided there isn't enough credit on the account to cover the final bill).
