So Energy Awarded Sunday Times Best Places to Work Status for Second Year in a Row

So Energy, the energy company with renewables at its heart, has been named in the Sunday Times Best Places to Work’s Big Organisation category for a second year.

The Sunday Times’ list – which recognises organisations who have consistently high levels of employee experience and wellbeing - is the UK’s biggest and most prestigious study of employee engagement.

The detailed survey measures key drivers of employee engagement; Reward and Recognition, Information Sharing, Empowerment, Pride, Job Satisfaction and Wellbeing to understand how employees feel about their jobs.

Over the past 12 months, So Energy has doubled down on efforts to ensure that it reflects the richness of the customers and communities it serves up and down the country. Highlights include:

  • Charity & Community: Ten charity events were hosted in 2024, collectively contributing 250 hours of service to UK communities.Employees also benefit from three paid volunteering days per year, two paid blood donation days, charity donation matching and a sustainable community library.
  • Team-Building Events: Last year, employees ran over 90 miles together, created pottery, celebrated diverse cultures through four affinity groups, and broke bread at more than 25 company events.
  • Gender Representation: Over the past year, female representation at So Energy has increased, and its median gender pay gap currently lies at just 0.3 percent.
  • Industry Partnerships: So Energy advocates for broader change across the sector through partnering with organisations like the Energy Leaders Coalition, POWERful Women, and TIDE.
  • Wellbeing Support: Employees have access to mental health resources, therapy, and life coaching through So Energy’s partnership with Unmind. They can also benefit from flexible and hybrid working patterns, free daily breakfast and office snacks.

So Energy’s commitment to continuing to improve its employee experience is reflected in its evolving Diversity & Belonging Strategy, which has been designed to close any remaining gaps in representation. This includes calling on its supply-chain partners, industry networks, and fellow energy suppliers to help build a truly inclusive, equitable sector.

So Energy’s parent company, ESB also ranked 3rd in Ireland’s Best Employers 2025, highlighting the strength and stability of the wider group.

Simon Oscroft, So Energy Co-Founder comments:We are thrilled to have been recognised for this award for the second time, reflecting the commitment, compassion and collaborative spirit of every single team member. It’s a reminder that each of us plays a part in shaping our culture and making So Energy a truly great place to work.

“Treating our employees well directly enhances the service we provide to our customers. Our strong performance in customer service and our commitment to accountability in diversity metrics reflect our nomination, however we are acutely aware that more can still be done – and look forward to continuing this journey.”

Charlie Davies, So Energy Co-Founder adds: “The road to net zero requires creative thinking and new and innovative ideas, but this will only be reached if we ensure that everyone has the ability to bring their whole selves to work. It’s also dependent on the businesses driving this generational change to represent through their own workforce, the communities and customers they serve.

“That’s why at So Energy we’ve developed processes and tools to ensure all staff feel a genuine sense of belonging. We know there’s still more to do, both within our own business and across the wider sector, but this award proves that we’re moving in the right direction.”
