Introducing our new EV Tariff: So EV!

Learn about our new tariff for EV owners. Find out the benefits of a tailored tariff and whether you’re eligible.

We’re excited to announce we’ve launched So EV, our dedicated tariff for customers with an EV (electric vehicle). As EVs become increasingly popular, many electric car owners will be looking for ways to charge their EVs at home without breaking the bank. We offer the cheapest off-peak rates currently on the market, at 6.5p per unit of electricity, so you can charge your EV overnight for less than you’d pay during peak hours. Get a quote here.

What is an EV Tariff?

You don’t need an EV tariff to charge your electric vehicle – our standard variable tariffs (SVTs) will do – but an EV tariff is tailored for electric vehicle owners, offering discounted rates. During set times, customers on an EV tariff benefit from cheaper rates to charge their EVs.

With So EV, your off-peak rate will kick in overnight between 12am and 5am, so you pay less for the electricity you use. This isn't exclusively to charge your EV. Enjoy these lower rates for any other household electricity usage.

What are the Benefits of an EV Tariff?

When you sign up for So EV, you’ll reap the benefits of an EV tariff. These include:

Save money on home charging costs

With an EV tariff, you can charge your electric car at home overnight at a discounted rate. Being on So EV is similar to being on a fixed tariff, except you’ll also enjoy reduced costs per unit of electricity during off-peak hours.

If you’re environmentally conscious and own (or are thinking of owning) an EV, switching to an EV tariff will help you save on your bills when you charge your vehicle overnight at off-peak times.

Use renewable energy

EV tariffs are often made up of 100% renewable electricity, just like ours! This means you can lower your carbon footprint even more when you move to an EV tariff.

Put less pressure on the grid

To manage demand during peak times, the energy grid often resorts to using fossil fuel energy to meet demand. By shifting your EV charging time to overnight, you’re taking pressure off the energy grid.

What is the eligibility for So EV?

To be eligible for So EV, we need to confirm you have an EV that’s registered in the UK. You’ll also need a smart meter that sends us half-hourly reads, so we can bill you accurately.

Don’t yet have half-hourly reads set up? No problem, you can change this within your online account. If you don’t have a smart meter installed in your home, you can book your free installation here.

You’ll also need to charge your EV at your home with your own charger, so if you rely on charging your EV from a public charge point, you won’t be eligible. Soon we’ll be offering EV home chargers, helping you to charge your EV most affordably.

Should I Get a Smart Meter Installed In My Home?

Getting a smart installed in your home is both a free and smart move to make.

With a smart meter, you get real-time information about your energy usage, allowing you to make smarter choices and potentially save on your bills. Plus, it can help reduce the nation's carbon footprint and bring us closer to a greener future. Find out more here.
